10/05/2010

Birgitta Ohlsson, Swedish Minister for EU Affairs, discussed the current situation in Belarus, the environment, human rights and welfare on her visit to EHU on May 7.

“I would like to see Belarus coming closer to Europe in the nearest future,” the Minister said to the EHU community. “Sweden, as the rest of European Union, has been observing the development of Belarus very attentively by keeping open to thorough dialogue.”

The 35-year-old Ms. Ohlsson is the youngest Swedish minister in recent memory. After graduating Stockholm University in 1997, she served as Chair of the Liberal Youth Organization. From 2002 to 2010 she was a member of the Riksdag, Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, and foreign affairs spokesperson for the Liberal Party.
