President and Rectors Discuss Educational Reform in Lithuania

Rector of the European Humanities University Professor Anatoli Mikhailov took part at the meeting of rectors of Lithuanian universities with President of the Republic of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė on January 21, 2010.
The President and rectors of the Lithuanian universities discussed the issues of students’ admission, financing, and the process of university restructuring and consolidation of the network of the Lithuanian higher education institutions.
According to the President Grybauskaitė, it is necessary for the Lithuanian Ministry of Education to improve the quality of education as well as the process of students’ admission and ensure them choosing less popular but important specialities for the Lithuanian economy.
The President believes the quality of education highly depends on the work of faculty and researchers. Therefore improvement of the faculty pedagogical and scholarly qualification as well as enhancing their motivation should be considered as priority by university rectors.
“Educated society is the asset of Lithuania. Despite all the financial difficulties of the time, it is necessary to improve the quality of education, so Lithuania would become the country of high technology in the future,” said President Grybauskaitė.
