Why and How to Donate

‘The establishment of the Trust Fund for the EHU by the Nordic Council of Ministers is an important step in guaranteeing that all Belarusian students, whatever their political views, have access to higher education. I am proud that the Commission will be the first contributor to this fund, and I urge other donors to also provide their support.’
Benita Ferrero-Waldner, EU Commissioner for External Affairs, April 2008

Donating to the EHU Trust Fund provides an international higher education for a generation of young Belarusians in an academic environment free from repression or discrimination of any kind. By providing a model of higher education built on the best practices of universities worldwide, the EHU contributes to the development of democracy and civil society throughout the region.

To study or teach at EHU carries with it personal risks; teachers as well as students are harassed and interrogated by Belarusian authorities. Their future in Belarus is uncertain. Yet more than 1,000 Belarusians choose to study in Vilnius at EHU. The students and teachers commit their futures. They need support in return.

The Trust Fund provides a transparent and effective way of giving to EHU with minimal bureaucracy. The Trust Fund works in close cooperation with the EHU Governing Board and reports directly to the donors.

Donations to the Trust Fund are made through an agreement with the Nordic Council of Ministers. The standard agreement text is included in the Terms of Reference. An online donation system is under development.
